Focus on Fire Wardens

Focus on Fire Wardens

The minutes immediately after the fire alarm has been raised are crucial in preventing a fire from growing and to ensure that the occupants of the building are evacuated quickly and efficiently. When the Fire Service arrive they will be dealing with the fire or rescuing people who may be trapped, so they cannot be expected to assist with the evacuation.

In many companies and organisations designated members of staff will have additional duties and responsibilities in a fire situation, these staff are normally referred to as Fire Wardens or Fire Marshals. The number of staff designated for these duties will normally depend on the size and complexity of the workplace. It is normal for one Fire Warden (and a deputy) to be nominated per department or floor.
Utilising Fire Wardens/Marshals is a quick and effective way of ensuring that the building has been evacuated, they can also positively influence & develop their colleagues in helping to create a safer work environment

Focus on Fire Wardens has been produced specifically for training staff who have been designated as fire wardens/marshal, so that they are aware of their role in a fire situation as well as what they can do on a day to day basis to ensure high standard of fire safety and help prevent fire from starting
Focus on Fire Wardens covers the following subjects;

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
Fire Risk Assessments
Raising the Alarm
Evacuation Techniques
Fire Alarm Systems
Fire Wardens Duties
Sweep Clearing
Day To Day Fire Prevention
